The club wad formed in 1949 when George Russell, a National Fitness Council Officer, introduced the sport to Devonport, with early games being played on outdoor courts on the fire brigade track at the Devonport Oval and the Devonport Convent School and soon after in the Drill Hall (now the vanue for the Devonport Youth Services group known as Loading Zone.)
Gearge's foresight also led to the construction of the Devonport Youth Centre in 1965 and later the Devonport Sports Stadium in 1963, still the largest indoor sports facility on the North West Coast, located in the Forbes Street.
The club has representative teams in both senior men and women Coastal NWBU competitons and is represented in every junior age group (12 - 22's) in the Junior Coastal Roster, both boys and girls.
Tasfreight Senior Warriors Women are the current NWBU Champions and will again be the team that is the measuring stick for all others in the competition in 2007. Our men's team again made the finals and will this year be one of the flag favourites.
The club is administered by a volunteer Board of Management, responsible for all aspects of the operations of the club.
The club relies heavily on a large number of valued volunteers to conduct local rosters, manage their many representitive teams, host visiting coastal teams, organise and manage many local, regional, state an national tournaments, coordinate and manage it's canteen, club rooms and bar facility.
Devonport continues to develop outstanding young players, officials and administrators and not only cater for the sport locally, but Warriors teams travel thoughout the state and, on occasions, to the mainland.
Our Under 16 Boys team are the current state champions and Advocate-Fairbrother Sporting Team of the Year. Ryan Williams is a member of the Australian Emus squad and destined to represent his country in 2007.
The club relies heavily on club conducted activities like rosters and tournaments; registrations, sponsorship, and fundraising to fund the operation of the organisation. The club values the support received from it's many business associates and has developed many long standing relationships. Your support in 2007 will ensure the club continues to provide a pathway for young players, continued growth and a great family based sporting activity within our community.
